Not NYE. Pretty excited about this. Maybe more so than actual NYE. Erol! Aeroplane!
Another fine party for the festive season.

This is where I’ll be on NYE (after playing records at Keston Lodge first) with milkbarnick, handsup-thumbsdown (got your ticket yet?) and a few other fine people. Yes yes y’all.

Looks like DWADE pulled a Scottie on Varejaeo tonight. Topic of Discussion: Could this dunk possibly be the most menacing “facial” ever in the history of the NBA? (Pippen on Ewing, not Wade over Varejao)

Yo Milkbar Nick, didn’t you used to own this card back in the day? Always Upper Deck, never Fleer.

The Flaming Lips
“Silver Trembling Hands”
Live from somewhere, 2009
I think I prefer the shift to the smooth chords on the chorus more in the live version — less pomp, more sudden relaxation. Nodding out to the rising bliss, to put in the terms of another great song.
That ‘somewhere’ was the Troxy in London on Tuesday night. The new songs sounded fantastic live, although the crowd didn’t seem that appreciative (probably because the material was unfamiliar for majority of the audience, who really only seemed to liven up when the band played songs from Yoshimi and Mystics. Also, it was a cold Tuesday night in a venue that took quite some time to find, not Brixton Academy on a Saturday night in summer. Having said that, I urge London readers to experience a concert at the Troxy at least once as it really is a beautiful venue - Wayne loved the fact that it used to be a bingo hall, and sympathised with the ‘rebellious smoking grannies’ who were pissed off when the venue closed a few years back as a result of the capital’s smoking ban).
Also, if Wayne had cut his on stage banter in half then perhaps the audience could have been treated to a few more songs. I love you Wayne, but we know Dubya was a dick. Just sayin’.

YACHT - Psychic City (Classixx remix)
When I do one of those ridiculously earnest ‘Best of the year’ mixtapes (which I do every year), this will be first on the list. Unbelievably catchy, with a nice ‘Hall & Oates meets Tom Tom Club’ feel to it. Four minutes and thirteen seconds of bliss.
